Defense Objective 03: Reduce the Attack Surface
Title: How Hackers Exploit Open Doors—and How Cybersecurity Engineers Shut Them

Mission Context: NovaGaming Studios relies on cloud infrastructure and connected office networks to run Star Clash and support millions of players. However, each system, service, and open port can be an entry point for hackers. If unused or unsecured ports are left open, attackers can sneak in, plant malware, or launch a full-scale breach.

Your Task as a Cybersecurity Engineer:

-
Identify Open Ports: Scan for exposed or unused ports that don’t need to be accessible.
-
Shut Down Unused Services: Disable or close access points that the game or office teams don't require.
-
Implement Firewall Rules: Apply controls to ensure only trusted traffic flows in and out.
-
Watch the Perimeter: Monitor external-facing systems for unexpected activity or new vulnerabilities.
Why This Defense Objective Matters: If the attack surface isn’t reduced:

-
Hackers could use scanning tools to discover and exploit weak points
-
Malicious code could be injected through forgotten access paths
-
Even a single open port could lead to a major breach
Your mission: Learn how to identify digital entry points, lock them down, and reduce NovaGaming’s exposure to cyber threats before attackers enter.
